Gold Ten Rupee of Queen Victoria

This gold ten rupee coin was minted when India was the jewel of the Imperial British diadem.

Issued in the year 1870, this coin was minted during the colonial period when sixty years of the East India company’s dominion was transferred to the in the hand of British Crown as result of Sepoy Mutiny of 1857-1858 AD.

This gold coin was issued during the reign of Queen Victoria. The obverse side of the coin depicts a crowned and robed bust of Queen Victoria which is facing left and a divided legend “VICTORIA QUEEN” within the raised toothed rim. The reverse side of the coin depicts denomination/INDIA/date within the beaded circle and around it ten-pointed star with scrollwork intertwined around it within the raised toothed rim.

These coins come under the regal issue which came under the authority of the crown. It was first minted in 1862 which was unchanged till 1947. Queen Victoria was proclaimed as Empress of India in 1877 and legend on the obverse of the coin was changed accordingly.

This Gold Ten rupee of Queen Victoria was sold at INR 5, 00,000 it is in a superb mint state and very rare. It’s a proof re-strike coin which was sold by Todywalla auction on 10th December 2016 in Pune.
